A one syllable name is often the best choice when the given or surname name has more than 2 syllables, but some parents-to-be like a short name for the given name. It doesn’t always stop those “creative” nicknames, to be sure (Todd the Bod, Bruce the Goose, Blake the Flake), but some of the one syllable names, like Charles, do come with many nickname possibilities of their own.
