I have always been called Missy…short for Melissa. I’m a scientist, though- Microbiology. Something interesting I’ve learned in my profession is that a Genus of bacteria was described called “Melissacoccus,” extracted from the gut of a honey bee. As you’re probably aware, Melissa has Greek origins and means honey bee. I’m a total geek and had a t-shirt made that says “Melissacoccus sp.” with an image of a honey bee on the front, and also has the entire 16S gene sequence on the back.

So , my bf has started a trend of calling me Mel. So now that’s my name 😄
