    In my great grandfather’s line “Rash” pronounced “Raysh” was a nickname for Horatio. He had a brother and uncle on each side and a first cousin named Horatio that went by “Rash”.

    Our son is called Horatio and we call him ‘H’, H’ington, H’y Babes. He loves his name and so do we.

    Horatio is such an odd but wonderful name. The problem is, what on earth is a good nickname for it, Harry? Maybe? Surly not Horry or ratio. So what about Harry?

      I like your Harry idea so I added a best nicknames part to this post with two other nicknames I found for guys with the name. There was one guy, though, who was named Horatio and his brother was named Henry so it would not have worked for him — Harry was already in use for Henry :-)

      P.S. Horatio Alger’s childhood nickname was “Holy Horatio” and he hated it.

      Our son is a Horatio and is known as Raich after the 1940s footballer Raich (Horatio) Carter.
