Last month, I was filling you in on the nationwide upswing in bank robberies, and that has continued at least around Houston, where we are seeing just about one every week. Evidently, it continues in other parts of the country as well and the latest to join the roster of would-be bank robbers is none other than actor, Rip Torn. The 78 year old actor, who has had a long and fruitful career on stage, screen and television, was arrested in the town of Salisbury, Ct. for breaking into a bank on Friday, January 29, 2010. The Connecticut Middleton Press reported that State police from the Troop B barracks in North Canaan responded to an alarm going off at a Litchfield Bankcorp building around 9:40 p.m., where they found the Emmy-award winning, Oscar-nominated actor “with a loaded revolver,” adding that he was highly intoxicated. The actor is a resident of Salisbury. He was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree criminal mischief.
