My father named me Jocelyn Carol. I have always wished he would have spelled it with an ‘s’ instead of the ‘ce’ blend. Talk about mispronunciations in school and in like. Although the name has become much more popular now than when I was born in 1957.
My personal favorite nickname for myself is Jo. Again, a lot of frustration at fast food places etc because it seems no one out there knows that the female Jo is spelled Jo not Joe.
@Jo, possibly you might have run into just as much mispronunciation with the S spelling, because the S riffs off Joseph even more than the C spelling. I remember when Jocelyn was less common in the 50s. A girl in school had that name and I thought it was beautiful.
Teachers often called attention to kids with less common names back then because they would have 3 or 4 with more common ones.
as a Joslyn, i wish mine was spelled with a ce since everyone just jokes about how my name is spelled wrong lol
